TUCSON, Ariz. - Jacob Wyatt and Victor Lange each carded 2-over-par rounds as the freshman-senior duo led Louisiana Tech in Tuesday's second round of play at the NCAA Regionals at The Gallery Golf Club in Tucson.

As a team, Louisiana Tech finished the day at 16-over-par and the Bulldogs are now 29-over-par and in 12th place entering Wednesday's final round. The Bulldogs have a 17-stroke lead over North Carolina and only trail St. Mary's by seven strokes. Wyatt is the top Bulldog on the individual leaderboard, ranked tied for 17th.

For Wyatt, his streak of "hot" continued from Monday. The true freshman that led the Bulldogs in the opening round finished the day only four strokes from the advancing individual spot and was tied for that spot with two other golfers with three holes to play.

"I felt good all the way," Wyatt said of his round Tuesday. "I was pretty consistent. In the end, I would not change a thing I hit. I would not have done anything differently. I just had some bad breaks at the end."

That end was a frustrating 4-over-par over holes seven through nine. Holes seven and nine, statistically, are two of the three toughest holes being played on the course, accounting for a total of 29 double bogeys to this point. But despite not finishing the round the way he would have hoped, Wyatt is still in contention for the advancing individual spot.

"The hole looked really big to me on the greens today," Wyatt said. "I was making a bunch of putts. It gave me a lot of great confidence for tomorrow. Like coach told me after the round, we had a little chat and he said, `I have done more good than bad so far.' I agreed and just need to try to get even better tomorrow."

His round started hot, as did the entire team's round, as Wyatt carded back-to-back birdies to start. Four out of the five Bulldogs would birdie their second hole of the day, hole 11, and the team was a combined 2-under-par after five holes and gaining ground on the team leaderboard.

"We got off to the exact start we were hoping to," Louisiana Tech head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "As a team, that was exactly what we needed to do. I felt like if we could shoot anywhere from even par to four or five under today, we could get right up there. The turn really hurt us. We lost a lot of shots on holes 18 and one, two and three."

During that four-hole stretch all five Bulldogs carded a total of 11-over-par with only Victor Lange not adding a bogey to his scorecard during that stretch.

Not surprising from the consistent senior as Lange's 26 pars over two rounds ranks fifth among the field. He finished the day at 2-over-par and is now 5-over-par for the tournament. Similar to Wyatt, he also had a hiccup at the end with a birdie on the final hole of the day (Hole 9). He heads to the final round of play tied for 37th on the individual leaderboard.

Ben Robinson was as consistent as Lange except for a five-hole stretch that spiked his score. The senior was even-par through five holes before a bad tee shot on the par 3, Hole 15. After being forced to tee off again, Robinson wound up three-putting his way to a triple bogey. He would register double bogeys in two of the next three holes -- with a birdie sandwiched in between -- and a bogey after the turn. A native of England, Robinson was even-par outside of that five-hole stretch.

Chuck Spears was consistent over the first nine holes, making the turn at even-par, but three double bogeys over the last nine holes including one on the final hole would end his round at 6-over-par on the day, pushing his score to 22-over-par for the tournament.

Luke Neeley opened play Tuesday with a double bogey but settled down after that with eight consecutive pars. Like the rest of the team, the turn caused problems as he was 4-over-par over the first four holes after the turn. A redshirt sophomore, he would finish the day at 6-over-par and is 12-over-par through two rounds.

Louisiana Tech opens play in the third and final round at the Tucson Regional Wednesday starting at 7:55 a.m. MST/9:55 a.m. CDT. The Bulldogs will be paired with Georgia State and St. Mary's in the final day of action. The top five teams after Wednesday's round -- and the top individual not on one of those five teams -- will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon on May 27 through June 1.
