@LATechBOWL Opens ‘19-20 Season at Allstate Sugar Bowl

RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech bowling team will look to defend its Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational title this weekend when it opens the season in Harahan, Louisiana against fifteen opponents, including eight other ranked teams.

The Lady Techsters have already received national recognition ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, earning a no. 17 national ranking from the National Tenpin Coaches Association. Tech returns an accomplished group from last season with juniors Kaitlyn Eder and Ashley Channell and sophomores Sara Howell, Lindsay Manning, Kalia Patterson and Emily Rettig, and will add four talented freshmen - Tara Spridco, Allie Leiendecker, Danielle Jedlicki, and Emma Koch - to the mix.

Head coach Matt Nantais is looking for continued improvement from his 2019-20 squad after finishing with a higher win total in each of his first three seasons in Ruston. Tech finished the 2018-19 campaign with a 64-41 record and ranked 22nd in the NTCA postseason poll.

The Lady Techsters opened last season with a win at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, defeating Stephen F. Austin in a roll-off. Channell posted a weekend average of 200.60 and tallied 1,003 pins – third best of all bowlers across the weekend -  to earn all-tournament accolades.

This weekend's tournament, which is hosted by Tulane, contains 16 teams: No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 3 Stephen F. Austin, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore, No. 8 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Tulane No. 19 UAB, (RV) Texas Southern, Alabama State, Grambling, Jackson State, Southern, Tusculum, and Valparaiso.

The three-day tournament will feature five, five-game Baker matches on Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. followed by five traditional team matches on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. In the final bracket round on Sunday, the teams will participate in three best 4-out-of-7 Baker matches at 8:30 a.m. to determine final team standings, with an awards ceremony following shortly after the competition.
