Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on Sunday
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech soccer team will celebrate its five seniors on Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the season which comes against Marshall at 12 p.m. at Hoss Garrett Stadium on the campus of Ruston High School.
Jaelyn Peeples, Alexandra LeBlanc, Kaylee Zettler, Carlotta Cartelli and Stella Li will be honored after the match for their contributions and commitment to LA Tech (11-4-2, 3-4-1 C-USA).
This senior class has helped compile a remarkable four-year record of 52-18-11, including two Conference USA Tournament semifinal appearances.
"Of our seniors, I have always admired their grit, self-sacrifice, skill and willingness to give of themselves for the benefit of others," said head coach Kevin Sherry. "For many years after they graduate, I have no doubt their thoughts will go back to how sweet the victories were during their time here.
"I am absolutely convinced that those victories would not have been possible if it wasn't for the efforts of these five. They have all grown into responsible citizens and a good representation of our program and University."
Sunday is not just a big match because it is the final one at home, but it is big because the Lady Techsters are currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in the league standings with just two matches to go.
LA Tech was not able to add to its point total this past weekend when they suffered two shutout losses to UTEP and UTSA, leaving them stuck at 10 points. Only the top eight qualify for the C-USA Tournament, something the Lady Techsters have done each of the last five seasons.
Marshall (4-12-0, 2-6-0 C-USA) enters the weekend in a two-way tie for 12th place in the standings. After picking up back-to-back league wins over FIU and Old Dominion, the Thundering Herd have lost four straight.
Offensively, they are led by the sisters Marah and Farah Abu-Tayeh who have registered 19 and 12 points, respectively, on a total of 11 goals and nine assists. As a team, Marshall has allowed 40 goals this season. Primarily in net has been Lindsay Langley who has totaled 86 saves with a 2.41 goals against average.
LA Tech and Marshall will play for a seventh straight year with the series tied, 2-2-2. The first two meetings went the way of the Lady Techsters, then the Herd won the next two. And the last two meetings have both ended in 2-2 draws.
Admission is free to the contest. The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a custom Louisiana Tech scarf.
