RUSTON, La. - Fresh on the heels of a 3-1 week, featuring a midweek win over No. 15 LSU and a Conference USA series triumph over Western Kentucky, the Louisiana Tech baseball team will hit the road for the last week of the regular season, beginning with a Tuesday matchup at No. 5 Mississippi State from Dudy Noble Field.
The two Bulldogs will hit the field for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch. Admission is free, while the Salvation Army will be accepting donations to support Ruston and the Louisiana Tech community to aid in recovery from the destructive tornado nearly three weeks ago.
The game will be streamed live on SECN+ and through the Watch ESPN app, and broadcast on KNBB 97.7 FM with Dave Nitz on the call.
This will be the 63rd overall meeting between Tech and Mississippi State, with MSU holding a 37-14-1 edge.
Tech's last midweek contest vs. a ranked SEC turned out well in its favor, as the Bulldogs stomped then No. 15 LSU last Tuesday, 12-1.
Senior left-hander Logan Robbins (4-3, 4.72 ERA, 61.0 IP, 47 K, 27 BB) will make the start for the Bulldogs this Tuesday, after holding the Tigers to just one unearned run over 6.2 innings pitched last time out. Robbins allowed just three hits, while striking out two and walked just one batter. Through his first six complete innings, the southpaw faced just three batters over the minimum.
In his last two midweek starts, Robbins has allowed just two unearned runs over 12.2 innings pitched. The left-hander has struck out seven, while walking just one during that time.
MSU will counter with freshman right-hander Brandon Smith (2-0, 3.45 ERA, 28.2 IP, 24 K, 4 BB) making his second start of the season.
Tech will look to reigning C-USA Hitter of the Week in first baseman Mason Mallard to continue his scalding senior campaign. Last week, the senior hit .733 (11-for-15) in Tech's four games, with seven doubles, five RBI and nine runs scored.
Against No. 15 LSU on the road, Mallard went 4-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI and four runs scored, while leading Tech to a 12-1 triumph in Baton Rouge (LSU's largest home loss since 2007). Then, against Western Kentucky, Mallard notched three + hits in two of the three games, including a double in all three. The Whitehouse, Texas, native slugged 1.200, while reaching base at a .737 clip for the week.
Following up on last weekend's series win over WKU, Tech clinched a spot in the C-USA Tournament for the 4th consecutive season.
