About the Diamond Dogs:
LA Tech took down No. 1 Arkansas and No. 4 Ole Miss in a span of just three days to move to 10-5 on the season and 8-2 in its home ballpark this season. The Bulldogs will now begin their first and only true road nonconference series of the 2021 season, playing three games against a Tulane team that took a weekend road game from No. 2 Mississippi State just a few weeks ago.
Right-hander and Sunday starter Jarret Whorff picked up National Pitcher of the Week honors from the NCBWA, National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball and Pitcher of the Week honors from Conference USA following his complete-game shutout of No. 1 Arkansas on Sunday. Not to be outdone, Ruston native Cade Gibson made his first career start in a Bulldog uniform and allowed just one run over 7.1 innings to help Tech take down No. 4 Ole Miss 13-1 in the Love Shack.
LA Tech's pitching staff held Arkansas and Ole Miss to a combined eight hits over the past 18 innings, tallying a 19-5 advantage in base knocks since the start of Sunday's game. The Bulldogs exploded for 13 runs in a rout of the Rebels on Tuesday, marking the first time in 33 games the Rebels allowed 10 or more runs in a game.
Bulldog cleanup batter Steele Netterville led the way for the 'Dogs with four RBI in Tuesday's victory, finishing off a run of four straight doubles to open Tech's first team at-bat in a three-run first inning. All five of Tech's first five batters in the lineup recorded two-hit performances.
LA Tech holds a 3-5 all-time record against the Green Wave, playing just three games against Tulane in the 2000s. The Bulldogs won the most recent matchup, which came in their first year in Conference USA and Tulane's final season in the conference back on Feb. 23, 2014. Before the trio of conference matchups seven years ago, Tech and Tulane last played back in 1988.
Scouting Tulane:
Tulane has won four of its past five games, recently winning a weekend series at Troy. The Green Wave are 2-1 against Conference USA opponents so far this season, taking two games out of three against WKU at home.
Friday night and Sunday afternoon starters Braden Olthoff and Jack Aldrich each have posted an ERA under 3.00 this season. One of Olthoff's pitching victories came at Mississippi State when the Green Wave took down the Bulldogs 7-3 at Dudy Noble Field.
Infielder Collin Burns leads Tulane in hits (26), doubles (eight), batting average (.382) and slugging percentage (.632). Fellow infielder Chase Engelhard paces Tulane with three home runs.
Tulane is 6-3 at home this season, holding a 3-3 record in weekend contests at Greer Field in 2021. Just like Bulldog head coach Lane Burroughs, Tulane head coach Travis Jewett enters his fifth year in charge of his respective program.
