LA Tech Plays Host to Rice for a Three-Game Conference Series

The Bulldogs and Owls will open the series Friday at 6 p.m.
RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech is home for three more as they take on the Rice Owls for the fourth Conference USA series of the year at J.C. Love Field at Patterson Park.

ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (20-10, 6-3 C-USA)
LA Tech is coming off of a midweek series split with UL-Lafayette taking game one 7-3 and dropping game two 8-6. The Bulldogs are 2-3 in their last 5 after the series loss to Southern Miss in Hattiesburg.
Bulldog third baseman Logan McLeod has been red hot at the plate as has now reached base in nine consecutive games and leads the conference in on-base percentage during league play (.639). McLeod found his way up in the two-hole on Wednesday night after coming off of his first career home run on Tuesday.
Taylor Young leads the squad in nine different hitting categories. The senior shortstop has been a key contributor to the success of the Bulldog offense.
Left-hander Cade Gibson will make his first Friday night start tomorrow. The redshirt senior has put together an incredible five starts thus far. Gibson went seven strong innings at Southern Miss last Saturday striking out a career high nine batters and earning the win.
Ryan Jennings finds his way back into the Saturday spot after proving himself in his last five appearances out of the bullpen. In that span, the right-hander has tossed 12 high-leverage innings allowing three runs and striking out 12.

Rice is fresh off a midweek victory defeating Houston Baptist 13-1 in seven innings. The Owls snapped a five-game losing skid with losses to Florida Atlantic, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Marshall.
Owl infielder Nathan Becker leads the team with a .354 batting average while recording 28 hits in 25 games played. Becker has hit safely in three straight games with two RBI coming in the win versus Houston Baptist.
Graduate transfer Cooper Chandler will make his eighth start Friday night with a 1-5 record and a 5.50 ERA. Chandler has tallied 42 strikeouts in 34.1 innings, placing him in the top 10 in the conference in strikeouts.

LA Tech swept the season series last year in Houston outscoring Rice 46-16 in the four games. The last time the two squared off in Ruston was in 2018 as the Bulldogs were took all three games of the series.
