DALLAS – The Louisiana Tech Golf team continued its streak of team rounds at or under par as the Bulldogs made it five straight on Monday with a 288 (E) in round two of the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Â
LA Tech slipped one spot on the leaderboard, finishing 36 holes in eighth with 18 holes to go tomorrow at the Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Â
Niilo Maki-Petaja continued his incredible start to the 2024-25 season. After shooting a bogey-free 67 (-5) in round one, the sophomore backed that up with a 68 (-4) which put him in third as an individual and just three shots back of the leader.
Â
It was nearly another bogey-free round for Maki-Petaja. The only blemish on his Monday scorecard was a bogey on No. 7. Outside of that, it was steady as usual, including a stretch of three straight birdies to start the back nine. He has now shot under par in six of his eight rounds this season and is 23 under par over his last five rounds.
Â
Freddie Surgey was also very close to having a bogey-free round himself. The freshman was rock solid all day, shooting 35 on the front while adding birdies on the two par 5s on the back. The lone bogey came on the finish hole, giving him a 70 (-2) after shooting 70 (E) in round one.
Â
A tough break for
Morton Bailey on No. 15 led to a double bogey. Despite that, the freshman was able to grind out a 74 (+2) for the Bulldogs while sophomore
Jake Plumb's up-and-down round ended with a 76 (+4).
Â
UNLV currently leads the invitational, followed closely by Southern California and host SMU.Â
