The Bulldogs were victorious in their CUSA opener last time out on the home pitch, picking up a 2-0 win over UTEP.
Madeline Gray scored the game winner in the final minutes of the first half from the first of
Peyton Wiseman's two assists in the match.
Wiseman dished her second dime on a cross to the box, finding
Abby Hanton who scored her second goal of the season on an impressive header moving away from the goal.
Gray's goal was the first of her career while Hanton is the only Bulldog with multiple goals in 2025. Wiseman is the first freshman with two assists in a single match since both Jahmoia Henderson and Bryce Miniefield dished a pair of assists as freshmen in a 15-0 route over Alcorn State on August 25, 2019.
Wiseman is the first Bulldog to record multiple assists in a conference match since Nomvula Kgoale dished a pair against Southern Miss on October 26, 2019, and is the first freshman since Mylene Roy-Ouellet against UTSA on October 18, 2015.
Previewing the Bearkats
Sam Houston enters Sunday's contest after ending their CUSA opener in a 2-2 draw at New Mexico State. The Bearkats went into the half with a 2-1 lead before the Aggies netted the equalizer in the 74th minute.
The Bearkats are led by head coach Kendall Ayers, who spent the last two years of her playing career as a Louisiana Tech Bulldog in 2015 and 2016. She is in her first year at the helm of Sam Houston's women's soccer program and in her second year as a Division I head coach.
Ayers spent her first season as gaffer at Texas Southern, guiding the program to its first SWAC regular season championship and an appearance in the championship game of the conference tournament. She led the Tigers to a 9-9-2 record with a staggering 6-1-1 record in SWAC play.
Tiana Johnson leads the Bearkats with three goals, seven total points, 20 shots with seven attempts on frame. She is one of four multi-goal scorers with Indigo Sims, Gianna Gomez and Ellie Morgan all tied at two goals.
Sims along with Kinsey Hill lead Sam Houston with each having two assists followed by seven other players with an assist this season.
Katie Bahn has been the mainstay for the Bearkats in goal, having started in all eight matches. The graduate has recorded 32 saves this year with 14 goals allowed, along with a clean sheet in a 1-0 win at Grand Canyon.
