The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-0 losing decision to Mississippi State in Starkville on Thursday. It was the fourth consecutive road match Tech was unable to put the ball in the back of the net, making it the second-straight season the Bulldogs suffered such a streak and is the fifth time in program history they were unable to score in at least four-straight total matches.
Tech has not taken the pitch with Southern Miss since 2021, where the two sides ended in a 1-1 draw following double overtime in Ruston. The last time the Bulldogs played in Hattiesburg, they fell, 3-1, to the Golden Eagles which snapped a five-match winning streak against Southern Miss and an eight-match unbeaten streak.
The Bulldogs are an even 2-2-2 when facing the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg and have not won a road match against the Golden Eagles since their 2-1 overtime victory in 2019.
Previewing the Golden Eagles
Southern Miss enters Sunday's contest having not secured a winning decision in 2025, currently holding a 0-5-1 record. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 2-2 draw at home against Jackson State, snapping their five-match losing streak to open the campaign.
The Golden Eagles are led by 13th-year head coach Mohammed El-Zare. El-Zare has led Southern Miss to five conference tournament appearances including a pair of championship match appearances in 2018 and 2021.
Southern Miss' gaffer has accrued a career record of 79-101-34 since arriving to Hattiesburg prior to the 2013 season. He has led his squad to a pair of 10-win seasons with a career-high 13 wins in 2018.
The Golden Eagles were held off the scoreboard through the first 360 minutes of game time before netting their first goal in a 5-1 loss at UAB before their draw at home against Jackson State.
Ryan Smith and Rhyleigh Marks are the lone goal scorers for Southern Miss with Smith being the only player with multiple goals. Raquelle Mitchell dished the lone assist for the Golden Eagles against the Tigers in their previous match.
Southern Miss has seen combined efforts from three separate goalkeepers this year with Maddie Ellis seeing the majority of in-goal minutes with 316. She has allowed 12 goals in five starts with 19 saves on 54 shots faced. Lena Blake made the only other start for the Golden Eagles and has appeared in three total competitions. She has allowed three goals with three saves in 165 minutes on the pitch.
