Bulldog's late goal not enough against Golden Eagles.

HATTIESBURG, MISS – The Louisiana Tech soccer team (2-7-2, 0-2-1 SBC) lost to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 1-2 Sunday afternoon in Hattiesburg, Miss. at the Marshall Bell Track & Field/Soccer complex.

The Bulldogs struggled early, conceding a goal ten minutes after first touch. Despite trailing in both score and total shots, the 'Dogs continued to pressured the Golden Eagles. In the first half, they registered seven shots, with two of them being on goal, while also earning three corner kicks. Mackenzie Lorkowski matched the offensive pressure with five saves in the first half.

The Bulldogs came out of the half with an offensive mindset. They took eight shots, tied for second most in a half this season. They also earned another three corners.

However, the Golden Eagle's Shaelynn Quick scored her second goal of the game just nine minutes into the second half. In the 88th minute, the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half after a set piece goal. Following a yellow card issued to Southern miss' Ashton Stringfellow, Ashley Leonhart took a free kick and placed it precisely on the back post. Caroline Martin was in the perfect spot and headed it in the bottom right of the net.

Next up, Louisiana Tech returns home to duel the I-20 rival ULM on Sunday, October 4, at 1 p.m.

Caroline Martin scored her first career goal and a career-high three shots. She did so coming off the bench.
Ashley Leonhart assisted on the goal, her second of the season.
Peyton Wiseman recorded three shots, with two on goal. Both are season highs.

With eight saves, Mackenzie Lorkowski brings her season total to 85. She needs six more to reach #9 all-time in career saves in program history.
