Two quick goals from Hanton not enough Sunday afternoon

Natchitoches, La – The Bulldogs fell to Northwestern State, 2-5, Sunday afternoon in Natchitoches at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

Tech started the scoring early with two quick goals from Abby Hanton just 24 seconds apart.

The first came after Izzy Wilson collected a loose ball and found Hanton just outside of the Demons' box. Hanton sent the ball into the top middle, just above the goalkeeper's outstretched arms.

After the celebration ended and play resumed, it took just 18 seconds for Wilson to collect a misguided pass from a Demon. She found Hanton in a perfect sport at the top of the opposition's box. Hanton dribbled past the charging goalie and tapped the ball in.

NSU then scored five answered goals. Two came from Paige Baumgartner, the team's leading scorer for the season. Emily Gundin took responsibility for one goal, while the other two came from Iesha Rollins and Tiana Cruz, who did not start the match.

The Bulldogs have a week break before returning to Ruston on Sunday, Sept. 13, to face Texas State in the final nonconference game of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
