NATCHITOCHES, La. - Colby Johnson was 4-for-4 with a career day at the plate and Justin Gordey was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI as Louisiana Tech knocked off Northwestern State, 5-2, Wednesday night at Brown-Stroud Field.
With one out in the top of the first, Justin Gordey was hit on a 1-0 pitch from Jacob Roark then advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a ground out, Alex Williams ripped a single back up the middle to score Gordey. Following a walk from Clint Ewing, Johnson ripped the first of his four hits through the right side for an RBI single that score Williams and gave the Bulldogs a two-run lead.
Louisiana Tech (21-21) added three more runs in the second as Gordey doubled down the left field line to score Corey White and Mark Threlkeld belted a two-run double to the gap in left center that scored both Gordey and Kyle Roliard.
Roark (1-3) was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on five hits in 1.1 innings of work.
NSU broke through in the bottom of the second off of Josh Barrett as Aaron Munoz hit a two-run single to center field. Barrett was able to get out of the inning and picked up his first win on the season as he allowed two runs on three hits in a predetermined 2.0 innings of work.
In relief, five Bulldog pitchers combined to allow just four hits and no runs while fanning six batters and issuing no walks. Caleb Dudley picked up his seventh save of the season after working a flawless ninth inning to close out the game for Tech.
With the save, Dudley moved into sole possession of fourth place on the single-season list at Louisiana Tech. His seven saves are the most since Matt Buckle recorded nine saves and established the school record during the 2000 season.
