LA Tech Drops Game One 10-9 at Marshall

The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. CT

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – Marshall defeats Louisiana Tech Friday afternoon in game one of the three-game series at Kennedy Center Field.
 
LA Tech (23-11, 9-4 C-USA) falls to Marshall (16-18-1, 5-8 C-USA) despite four Bulldog home runs.
 
The Bulldogs jumped out quickly in this one as the first three batters of the game reached base on walks. Jorge Corona launched a grand slam with two outs to give the Bulldogs an early 4-0 lead.
 
Marshall answered back in the bottom half with a two-run shot from Ryan Leitch to cut the lead in half, 4-2.
 
In the top of the third, Walker Burchfield blasted his sixth home run of the year on a solo homer to right center. Steele Netterville added to the scoring in the fifth with his team-leading ninth home run of the season and now homering in three straight games. Three batters later, Corona connected with his second long ball of the day, taking a pitch the opposite way for a solo shot.
 
Marshall right-hander Ryan Capuano held LA Tech scoreless from the sixth to the eighth inning tossing five innings, giving up three earned runs, struck out seven and earned the win in relief.
 
Marshall scored their first six runs on three two-run blasts. The Herd scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth to take the lead. Christian Lucio dropped down an RBI bunt single to take the lead and Geordan Blanton singled through the right-side bringing home the tenth Herd run.
 
The Bulldogs made it interesting in the ninth as Taylor Young and Logan McLeod both singled to lead off the inning. Netterville grounded into a fielders choice bringing home Young to make it 10-9 with one out.
