Series History: Tech leads 4-0-0
Lamar (0-1-1) is just one of six programs the Bulldogs (0-1-1) currently hold an unbeaten record over, but have not hosted the Cardinals since 2015 and have not taken the pitch with them since 2016. LA Tech secured a 3-2 victory at home in their inaugural meeting in Ruston in 2009 before posting the first clean sheet of the series with a 1-0 win in Beaumont, Texas in 2010.
The Bulldogs blanked the Cardinals, 2-0, in their last meeting in Ruston before Tech sealed a 2-1 victory in Beaumont to open the 2016 season.
Entering Thursday, the 'Dogs lead the Sun Belt in corner kicks per game, saves per game and shots on goal per game, along with sitting among the top five in the league in shot accuracy and shots per game.
Mackenzie Lorkowski saw an unbelievable first career start in front of the net on Sunday, saving 11 shots to become just one of two freshman keepers in program history to do so in her collegiate debut. Her 11 saves are also tied for the fourth-most by a freshman keeper in LA Tech history.
Lamar enters Thursday with a matching record to the Bulldogs', yet have been unable to find the back of the net through their first two contests. The Cardinals opened the season with a 2-0 road loss at UTEP on August 12 before ending their home opener on Sunday in a scoreless draw with Sam Houston.
The Cardinals are led by head coach Nathan Kogut, who has made four Southland Conference tournament appearances in as many seasons along with a pair of NCAA Tournament bids in the process. In his first season in Beaumont in 2022, he led Lamar to a stellar 15-2-2 overall record and a 10-1-1 mark in Southland play, securing the double title with a regular-season and tournament championship secured.
2023 saw similar success—Kogut's squad ended the season 15-3-3 and 9-0-1 in league fixtures, eventually becoming the first Southland team to achieve consecutive tournament titles since the league's inception in 1997, along with a second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
